Hereditary pyropoikilocytosis smear.

As you may have guessed from the name, patients with HPP have thermally unstable red cells. Normal red blood cells do not fragment until they are heated to 49°C. HPP cells fragment in about 10 mins at 45-46°C, or 6 hours at 37°C. Understandably, patients have severe hemolytic anemia.
